Luckily, there is no shortage of martial arts studios in Australia and for sure, each and every one of them offers aikido classes. To look for a dojo near you or where you work, check for listings online. Once you find said dojos, check their schedules to see if they fit your schedule too. Should you have any questions, give the dojo a call and ask for clarifications.
What to prepare
Some dojos will have intro classes for free so you have the chance of finding out if you really do like aikido or not before you pay for the full set of classes. If you do try out aikido and decide you like it, you may be asked to pay for several months' worth of lessons and a membership fee so be sure you have prepared the money for this.
What to wear
If you already have a Gi, you can wear it to your first Aikido class but if you do not, there is no need to worry as you may always wear jogging pants and a shirt. In fact, no one expects you to have a Gi right away so wearing normal workout clothes is fine. One word of warning though, there will be a lot of stretching and moving around during the class so you better make sure your workout clothes are comfortable and allow you to move.
What to do
For your first Aikido class, be sure you arrive at least 15 minutes early before the scheduled class as you will want to get to know other people in your dojo. You will also want to meet the master and have a chat with him. For your next classes, make sure you arrive early or just on time so you do not hold up the class when you arrive late.
